Update on Mask Use - MVSD COVID-19 Protocols

Mountain View School Division has undertaken a review of the current recommendations from Public Health and considered the interests of various stakeholders of the Division in determining the appropriate masking requirements for the commencement of the 2021-2022 school year.

The paramount consideration is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the Division’s students and staff. In considering the masking recommendations advanced by Public Health, the Division has made the decision that masks will be mandatory for all staff, students and visitors in our K-12 schools and on school buses for the commencement of the 2021-2022 school year.

Masking will be required by all individuals while indoors or on school buses, unless those students and/or staff satisfy the requirements for an exemption (see August 2021 Guideline for Mask Exemptions attached).

Fundamentally, this decision was made in consideration of the uncertainty of the impact of the Delta variant in the fall and the fact that our children remain vulnerable given that many remain ineligible for vaccinations. The Division is of the view that this requirement is necessary to protect the wellbeing of our students and staff.

The Board of Trustees and Senior Administration are committed to reviewing the requirement throughout the upcoming school year and to take into account any changes in circumstance which may impact the need and/or application of this policy. In addition, we will be monitoring closely the requirements and recommendations of Public Health to ensure that all of our students and staff continue to make our schools a safe place for learning.
