Cell Phones & Personal Devices
We acknowledge the crucial role that personal electronic devices play in fostering personal management, accessibility and equity within the scope of MVSD programming. Our approach to cell phones & personal devices is designed to strike a balance between promoting responsible device usage and recognizing the benefits personal electronic devices bring to our educational community. MVSD is committed to providing a holistic approach to education surrounding device use and management that includes students, staff, and caregivers. This includes:
All MVSD students K-12 in all buildings
- all students in MVSD must use technology in accordance with our Acceptable Use Procedure as well as any situation-specific policies/procedures (ie: student code of conduct, social media guidelines, etc)
K-8 students
- students will be provided with opportunities to be introduced to devices and digital content through school-supplied inventories only
- personal devices not associated with documented medical or learning accommodations should be kept at home
- students with personal devices for use before/after school must be turned off during school hours and kept in an area outlined by their school
9-12 students
- personal devices not associated with documented medical or learning accommodations will be turned off during instructional periods
- students will be provided with opportunities to be introduced to devices and digital content through school-supplied inventories as a default
- teachers may choose to utilize personal devices for instructional activities at their discretion. in these situations, students will be provided with explicit instructions and guided to turn off sounds, notifications, and enable "focus" mode
- students who are not developmentally prepared to regulate their personal device use to align with educational expectations will use school-supplied inventories only
