At Ecole Macneill...

Every student has access to immersion starting in Kindergarten.  Effective learning occurs when students use language to communicate relevant information or to accomplish meaningful tasks.  The French Immersion program at Ecole Macneill is based on this principle.

Curriculum Guidelines

Curriculum guidelines ensure that Immersion programs meet the same learning outcomes as English-language programs.  We follow the curriculum guides set out by Manitoba Education, Citizenship and Youth.  In studying two languages, children receive a double exposure to language skills that are readily transferred between languages.  Learning French will sharpen your skills in English.

Participating in the Global Community

As the world is brought closer together with the Internet and other information technology, the knowledge of English an French will let you exchange ideas with people around the world.  Job opportunities are also increased because people are needed who can communicate in the primary languages of business.

Here's what people have to say about second language learning:

"I love coming to school at Macneill because we learn a language that helps us communicate with others all over the world." -Student

"Why French?  Why not?  It sure opened my eyes.  My children can go anywhere in Canada or the world and have a good chance of understanding   anyone." -Immersion Parent

"Learning French gives you a broader understanding of the Canadian culture...Our country has two official languages and it's nice

to learn both!" - University student (former student of Ecole Macneill).

"I didn't want to limit my children's education to what I know.  They'll need more." - Immersion parent
