RESCHEDULED: Val Caldwell Presentation - Understanding the Social Media World

Parenting in a Social Media World
If you are a parent of a school aged child… chances are your child knows more
about social media and digital connectivity than you do. Technology has given us
the ability to connect with anyone, anywhere on the planet. On the one hand, our
children have the ability to know and learn more than we ever thought
possible. On the other hand, this connectivity presents challenges and
fear. Parents can become as proactive as possible in better understanding the
social media world.

A free upcoming opportunity to gain insight into the digital world is planned for
Wednesday, October 17 at 7:00 PM at the Gilbert Plains Elementary School with Val
Caldwell. Val has been providing information, particularly within rural schools,
on the topic of safety around the use of technology for nearly a decade. Her
personal and professional passion is to provide current and relevant tools and
information to children and adults to help them use their various forms and
technology and social media as safely as possible.

Val has spoken to well over 5,000 children in grades 5-12 throughout Manitoba
and Saskatchewan as well as countless parents, caregivers, and professionals.
Val promotes this information and encourages parents and educators to utilize
this information to help ensure that children are provided as many tools as
possible, from a young age, to help them remain safe in the vast world of
technology.

This event is sponsored by the Gilbert Plains Parent Advisory Council, in
partnership with Grandview Advisory Council and is open to parents and the
community. For more information on the Gilbert Plains PAC, please visit the
group’s new Facebook page.
